Reading

"You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold;
Richer than me you will never be - I had a mother who read to me".

Strickland Gillian 1869 - 1954

I hope that Christopher will share this sentiment one day- I certainly deserve it- after reading the Three Little Pigs (for some mysterious reason- often referred to by Christopher as the Two Little Pigs- but nevertheless our favourite book right now) every single night running for about a month.

I am considering changing the ending to escape my porcine blues- "And the big bad wolf ate up the three little pigs. He then suffered from the most appalling indigestion but mommy wolf gave him a homeopathic remedy and they both lived happily ever after".

I am loving his age right now: That he listens, that he shouts at The Big Bad Wolf, that he laughs and says the cutest things like, "No doggy (his interchangeable word for wolf) can blow down this house?" (face contorted with concern that some mangy mongrel might blow our house down), that he smiles when I reassure him, "No Baby- no Doggy can blow our house down." That he shares my love of reading.

SK8er Boy

I pulled out of the parking lot at Christopher's creche today as a young boy on a skate- board flew past, wobbled- arms out- corrected. Our eyes met- mine full of fear that he was about to face-plant into the pavement- and he flashes me the most brilliant smile and was gone. You know a smile that burrows into your heart and plants a stupid grin on your face? A smile that you are still thinking about when you get home? Sweet, sk8ter boy- you made my day.

My neice Riley

Enjoying a bath (a bird bath- but let's not get technical here)

Smelling the roses. Isn't she gorgeous!
